The Pharmaceutical Grant is provided for the purchase of prescriptive drugs only if unavailable at the Government Dispensary (Health Centre) or through the Chronic Disease Assistance Programme (CDAP).  An application for prescription drugs must be accompanied by the doctor's prescription.  The grant is designed to assist chronically ill persons who are clients of the Ministry of the People and Social Development, or persons in dire need of assistance to purchase their prescribed medication.  Eligible applicants can receive a maximum total amount of TT$2,500.00 for a three-month supply.

Am I eligible?

Only persons suffering from a chronic disease such as renal failure, diabetes, tuberculosis, etc. are eligible to apply for the pharmaceutical grant.  The drug must be prescribed for a course of treatment lasting three months and over in order to qualify.

How do I apply?

Persons who are already clients of the Ministry of the People and Social Development must approach their respective officer to make a request for assistance.  Other needy persons, who wish to apply for this grant, should visit the nearest Social Welfare Division Office or an office of the National Family Services Division.  Follow the links provided at the end of this section for office locations.

Applicants will be interviewed by a representative of the Ministry, who will submit a recommendation for approval if the applicant meets the requirements.  A letter of approval or rejection is sent to the applicant once a decision has been made.

How do I apply?

  • National identification card.
  • Drug prescription.
  • Estimate or quotation from the supplier.
  • Pay slip (if employed).

All invoices and valid prescriptions must be provided within six weeks of submitting an application.
