NCSE National Certificate of Secondary Education
The National Certificate of Secondary Education (NCSE) Level 1 is the new system of assessment and certification for secondary education in the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago. Students are awarded certification based on successful completion of examinations on the national curriculum in the following eight subjects: Language Arts, Mathematics, Science, Social Studies, Visual and Performing Arts, Spanish, Technology Education, and Physical Education. Agricultural Science, Industrial Arts or Home Economics will be offered in 2007 for the schools that offer these subjects and have not initiated the Technology Education Programme.
Who is eligible to write NCSE Level 1?
All Form 3 students at public and private secondary schools in Trinidad and Tobago must write the NCSE examination.
How do I register to write NCSE Level 1?
All Form 3 students are required to register at the secondary school in which he or she is enrolled. Registration information is provided during the month of October of each year.
How are students assessed?
Students are assessed using regular continuous assessments. Marks that students are awarded for coursework, other assessments and end-of term or end-of-year assessments in each of Forms 1, 2, and 3 are combined with the marks from the national examination to obtain the final marks for certification.
The Ministry of Education awards certificates to all students who attain a combined final mark of at least 60% for each of the eight core subjects.
