National Apprenticeship Programme

The National Apprenticeship Programme (NAP) provides structured apprenticeships in the private and public sectors in Trinidad and Tobago. As an apprentice, you will receive a combination of on-the-job training and related classroom instruction to help you learn the practical and theoretical aspects of a highly skilled occupation
The NAP is offered through the National Training Agency (NTA), with support from the Ministry of Tertiary Education and Skills Training (TEST).
Who can apply?
You can apply to be an apprentice if you are:
- A citizen of Trinidad and Tobago.
- Between the ages of 16 and 30.
How do I apply?
You must complete an Apprentice Application Form, which can be downloaded using the link below. You can also pick up the form from the NTA office in Trinidad or Tobago. You must bring your completed form to an NTA office with proof of your identification in the form of your National Identification Card, Driver's Permit or Passport. Both NTA offices are open from 8:00 am to 4:00 pm, Monday to Friday, except public holidays.

What happens after I apply?
Your application will be reviewed to determine if you meet the NAP's entry requirements. If you are accepted, a member of NAP's staff will contact you for an orientation/interview. You will then be placed in an apprenticeship for a period of one to three years, depending on the occupational area. Apprentices are paid an amount no less than minimum wage by the apprenticeship training provider.
What happens after my apprenticeship ends?
Based on your work performance as an apprentice and the existence of vacancies within the apprenticeship provider's organisation, you may be offered a position on a more permanent basis. The NAP will assist all those who successfully complete training in identifying permanent job opportunities.
Are there any associated fees?
There are no fees associated with the National Apprenticeship Programme.
